Sometimes, when life gives you lemons, you can make lemonade. But sometimes, you just end up with a puckered face and acid indigestion. That's what's been happening to us recently.
A couple of months ago we found out that the theme we were using for the store wasn't supported any more. That's not a good thing, especially when a change to the store software breaks something in the theme. So we needed a new theme.
We did some research and selected a theme that had great reviews. We installed it and it was fantastic—beautiful, fast, and loaded with features. It ran like a dream. But we soon found out that it really was just a dream. We found conflicts with some of the plugins we're using. We found theme features that didn't work. We found things that we thought were bugs that the developers told us were '"features". And support from the theme developers was slow and frustrating.
So we needed a new theme. Again.
We had just bought a new theme for another site we're working on... a simple blog site. It's a really nice theme, and we wondered if it would work for the store. So we tested it out and... it did! We just installed it on the live store, and it's looking good so far. If you've been noticing the changes in how the store looks for the past few months, we apologize for any confusion. We're hoping this is the last major change to the site appearance for a long time!
But as a side effect of all the changes, we were able to add a few nice features to the store.
The new Quick View button on product list pages (categories, searches, etc) will open a pop-up window that will show you the basic information on a product without leaving the list page. You'll see the product photos and short description, and buttons to select product options and add the product to your shopping cart. There's also a button to take you to the full product page.
A better Search feature that will allow you to find the products you're looking for more quickly and easily.
Share and Follow buttons to connect you to social media platforms.
Despite all the technical chaos, we've still managed to keep adding new products, like the ones below. And we've got more enhancements planned for the store... as soon as we recover from the theme conversion!
